Banks in the dock as lending crashes

Lending to businesses has dropped by a record amount in the last three months - exposing the emptiness of banks' promises to kick start the economy.
The devastating credit squeeze on firms is illustrated by official figures, which show lending tumbled by £14.7billion in the second quarter of 2009.
